I had no idea all hell was breaking loose with you, Fred - sorry to hear it.

My concern with laptop locks is; if the low-life/scumbag gets in and is frustrated with getting what he wants, he may take out his rage on your lovely home...Ever think of finding a lockable drawer to keep it in & out of sight? I know, it sucks having to change your ways for these reasons, but you know it will only get worse as the economy goes to hell in a hand basket...I vote for the alarm system. Hugz, C.

You have to loop it through some unmovable or hardly movable object. Targus lock comes with an anchor and screws included which you can screw to the underside of you desk, or your floor, or whatever... then just loop through that anchor and voila!

Well, I believe I do not have enough motivation for taking the stump out of the ground, so maybe I will leave it for you as a natural outdoor chair (tabourette) ;-)

Thanks for the lock info, Vytas. That may be less expensive than an alarm system. The question is what to attach it to, of course.

And I'm sorry, but I do believe the tree is all gone. Though we may still have the stump, if that's of any interest.

oops... This is why we have 3 cable locks at home. To cut one you have to have a proper tool, thus it works in case of these quick thieves. And even if he cuts one, he will have problems later getting rid of the lock without breaking the laptop.
Of these I prefer Targus DEFCON® CL (I have 2), because Kensington version that I have also, feels inferior as it seems to be prone to easy decoding. Ironically, the lock slot is called "Kensington slot".

BTW: did you get rid of the tree entirely? if not, I would gladly take a few blocks :)

Hi Alfred,

I was wondering why you didn't make it out to my party but alas, luck wasn't with you that evening.

I'm glad to hear you were able to recover all your data - MACs truly are awesome.

BTW: I've experienced the "AD" (alternator dead) phenomenon. It's truly freaky because you don't know what is going on until it's too late.

Talk to you soon.
